Blow Up Cinema is a pop up cinema presented by Gusto Films and Red Hot Shorts. Our mission is to show new and classic films in eclectic venues that’ll suit the film. Our first event was the dvd launch of banksy’s film, Exit Through The Gift Shop in a huge exhibition space featuring Melbourne street art.
Blow Up Cinema is very pleased to be heading to Melbourne’s favourite arts park, Ceres in Brunswick for a bunch of outdoor films in the bandstand area, perfect for a Friday night. Their licensed cafe will take of all things food and drink which will leave the films to us.
Friday February 10th:: I AM ELEVEN / Genevieve Bailey / AUS + Q&A
I AM ELEVEN is a globe-spanning portrait of humanity at a crucial age – no longer children, not quite adults, preparing to inherit a world changing as quickly and dramatically as they are. This documentary focuses on a series of eleven-year-olds from 15 countries, each speaking in their own words and revealing the private obsessions and public concerns that animate their lives. It is simultaneously an epic survey of the similarities and distinctions between cultures and an intimate account of these young personalities finding their way in the world today. Winner of an IF award for Best Documentary 2011.
Friday February 17th:: OUR GENERATION Sinem Saban & Damien Curtis / AUS
OUR GENERATION is a powerful and upfront documentary on the Australian Aboriginal struggle for their land, culture and freedom – a story that has been silenced by the Australian Government and mainstream media. Driven by the remote Yolngu of Northeast Arnhem Land, one of the last strongholds of traditional Aboriginal culture in Australia, as well as the voices of national indigenous leaders, historians and human rights activists, the film explores the ongoing clash of cultures that is threatening to wipe out the oldest continuing culture in the world. With music by John Butler Trio, Yothu Yindi, Xavier Rudd, Gurrumul, Archie Roach, Goanna, Saltwater Band and more.
